So I decided to do an experiment with
it and told it to do this (word for word):
Me to ChatGPT: "Create a 500-word children's story about a bear cub lost in the woods who stumbles upon an 8-year-old boy fishing and asks the boy for help. Use words suitable for an 8-year-old child to read".
What ChatGPT produced for me was almost perfect beyond belief, but in paragraph 5 I had a little logical issue with what it wrote. Here's what it wrote in paragraph 5:
"The boy
looked at Benny with a kind smile, and said, "Sure, I come here to fish all the time. I can show you the way back to your mama."
The problem I saw with this is that nowhere in the preceding four paragraphs was the mother ever mentioned by the bear cub to the boy, so I saw this as an opportunity to test the
understanding of ChatGPT.
Here's what I messaged ChatGPT next after reading the story:
Me to ChatGPT (word for word): "I
don't think the boy would know already that Benny has a mother, so change that part to make more sense."
ChatGPT wrote the story again exactly the same, but in paragraph 5 it changed it to this:
"The boy looked at Benny with a kind smile, and said, "Sure, I come here to fish all the time. I can show you the way out of the forest. Is your mama waiting for you outside?"
Isn't that something? :) It "understood" my problem with that
part of the text without me needing to be very "word-" or "sentence-" specific, and basically with me tossing it a logic problem to solve.
I would only expect that kind of response from an actual person.
Now, ChatGPT isn't 100% perfect in every single thing it outputs, but you can tell it to change this or that and it will give you different and better results, plus the app is increasing its capabilities over time.
